I like the emphasis on how much nicer it'll be when those darned PowerPC Macs no longer need to be supported. Sort of underscores what many people were complaining about back when the Intel transition was first announced: people are gonna quit compiling for PowerPC at the first moment it seems more profitable to not support it vs lost sales.

On the other hand, with the slow replacement rate (I'm currently using a Mac that's about seven and a half years old if I remember right) it'll be quite a while until even half of the Macs are x86-based...

Interesting... I like the "optimistic" feeling of the article. Of course, I still remember everyone's first reactions to the switch announcement!

Im shocked that commercial Mac games only sell 5 - 10,000 copies. Thats disappointing - no wonder so many windows games dont make it to the Mac. But its also impressive that some of the shareware devs on this board have sold around 1,000 copies - thats 10 - 20% of the sales of a commercial game sold in stores.

The article doesn't state that, it says Mac versions may only sell 3-5% that of PC games that do a few hundred thousand sales. So for a PC game that sells 200,000 copies, you can only expect 5,000-10,000 copies to sell for the Mac. AAA titles on the PC do upwards of a million copies, so even at a 3-5% conversion Mac sales probably hit 25,000-50,000 copies. I suspect the conversion rate is probably higher than 5% for most AAA titles though...
