Blender issues, Anybody Know how to fix this? - DudetheCreator - Nov 4, 2004 05:00 PM
Ok, so I downloaded Blender for Mac os X (10.3) and mounted the DMG and tried to start it up. (I took if off the DMG first.) My tibook does the usual disk grinding noise it makes when doing anything that requires any HUGE amount of effort. (I tried it on a 400 mhz iMac too.) I get that gray rectangle you sometimes see before a window appears where the rectangle was? You know, when the application loads. Anyway, I see the grey box and then boom. It's all gone and blender has not started up! AHHHH! Why does it do this!?! Just in case, I am using a 500mhz, 256mb ram Titanium Powerbook. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?

This happend on my 10.2 WAAAAAH!!!... (350Mhz)
I also see a gray rectangle...
but I get an error dialog saying "ThIs PrOgRaM has unexpectidly quit" (at least on 9 I would get the error code)
I was thinking about asking a blender person but now I'm working on my next game

See if there are any messages in the Console -- often an app spits some error messages before it blows up. I've diagnosed a few Quark issues at work this way.
If the error has to do with missing system libraries, you'll see ld error messages on the console -- this will tell you if you're missing, say, a particular version of libobjc or whatever ( as the case may be on 10.2 ).

Blender relies on OpenGL for its entire GUI, and needs a minimum 8MB video card. Even then you might want to reduce your bit depth to thousands of colours and lower your screen resolution on older machines. If that doesn't work, make sure OS X's crash logging is enable, find out exactly where it fails, then file a bug report and look for some other 3D software...

It seems like I had this happen to me when I first downloaded it, and as I recall, the problem was fixed when I downloaded a newer version. So, see if that's the problem, and if not, then I'll try to strain and remember exactly what happened to me.

I downloaded it twice (both didn't work)
so I'll try looking at the log soon.

Ok, anybody still look'n at this???
I reduced the size of my screen and the colours and it worked
BUT, it still freezez (and I lose some prefs)
Soooooooooooo, It has to be the RAM (of course!!!)
I think that I won't be using Blender anytime soon
