Free paint programs?
Noob here...
I am coming over from the PC world to the MAC world and I am still learning how to get around a MAC. Simple actions that I took for granted in the PC world is difficult to get use to in the MAC world..but I digress.
I am looking for a simple FREE paint program, kinda like Paint or Paint.NET is for the Windows environment.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.

The GIMP is probably the most widely-known and feature-rich free image editor:

There's also Paintbrush and Seashore, which are similar to MSPaint and the old MacPaint:

There will be also Fluid Paint if Alex ever manages to finish it

Thanks everyone.
I downloaded PaintBrush, it gets the job done for what I wanted to do, make simple graphic files.
Ill try the other ones later.

I will someday, I swear...
Pixen is also work a look, though I don't think it has been updated in a while.
I like Seashore quite a bit

Does Paintbrush and Seashore support layers?
Pixen does. I haven't experienced many crashes, but it is a bit slow and window focusing has some bugs.

I really like Art Rage. I think the starter edition is free too. I upgraded long ago.

I notice too, that if you need to scale down your images it does a great job of it. Seems much better than graphic converter when scaling down the image size. ( tough I like graphic converter too )

Seashore does support layers. It is basically the GIMP but with an OS X interface and most of the features taken out for simplicity.
Pixen is almost completely incompatible with leopard, but it should still run fine on Tiger, not that it's worth downgrading just for that.
I Love seashore. I also use GIMP, just for the cool gradients. It's the ultimate way to produce graphics:
• Create rough design in Seashore
• Edit and make it pixel perfect in GiMP.
PS. Doesn't GiMP look cooler than GIMP?

I have both Seashore and Pixen on my disc, as complements to Photoshop and Pixelmator (which is not free byt very, very cheap and not bad at all). I don't trust Adobe's copy protection, I fear it will fail at any time so I must have one or two spare plans. I mostly use Pixelmator.
