Missing Required Profile Fields

Something strange happened when I tried viewing a post this morning.

I got a page telling me I was missing fields in my profile and it would not let me viewing anything until I completed them.

Has something behind the scenes changed to cause this?

Why did it insist on my occupation?

Something similar happened to me, although it was a while ago. I was updating the Computer field of my profile a few months ago, and it said I needed to specify my occupation, something I didn't have to do when I originally registered.

Didn't prevent me from viewing posts though. Weird...
Since when was "Fred" a placeholder variable?

I've made fields required to get rid of some spam bots. I killed the occupation field.

Are you saying in the control panel you are unable to fill in those fields?
