I don't know. I haven't done app store distribution yet (but soon ).

But for testing it is no problem.

Apple goes through this on detail if you log onto the iPhone Dev Center, and then click on the Program Portal.

There is a lot to read there, but they explain it very well. It is probably only available in English, but I hope you'll be able to figure it out. There are lots of screenshots.
