uDevGames 2008
So, any new word on this, Carlos? Not meaning to rush you, I just want to make sure the ball is still rolling.
Keep this all constructive, please.
For the record, I have released eight commercial games this year so far, and I got my real start with uDevGames.
Cheers,
-Jon

you guys are basically saying, let's just do everything as we normally do and somehow it will be good/cool. if that's the case, why aren't you all making cool games right now, all the time?!?!? oh you are? i forgot that you released ummmm, ummmm, ummmm, you guys make games?
and to be frank, i do not think the last udg was successful. i can't even think of one of the entries.

Though it's particularly impressive art, I think I preferred the previous Cmd-R logo. That one's a little bit, well... scary.
Also, why's he covering his crotch?

Yeah, sorry to say, but that picture is really creeping me out.

Umm.. It is "stylized" artist re-creation. Not a replacement. Relax.
His hands are "bowing" in Japanese manner. As in, "So sorry to be late"

I really like it! The colors and artistry are amazing! I didn't get the crotch holding thing either though (cultural I guess -- sumo-style?), but otherwise it looks really really good.

Viewing the file directly returns the following:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/ruby
#
# You may specify the path to the FastCGI crash log (a log of unhandled
# exceptions which forced the FastCGI instance to exit, great for debugging)
# and the number of requests to process before running garbage collection.
#
# By default, the FastCGI crash log is RAILS_ROOT/log/fastcgi.crash.log
# and the GC period is nil (turned off). A reasonable number of requests
# could range from 10-100 depending on the memory footprint of your app.
#
# Example:
# # Default log path, normal GC behavior.
# RailsFCGIHandler.process!
#
# # Default log path, 50 requests between GC.
# RailsFCGIHandler.process! nil, 50
#
# # Custom log path, normal GC behavior.
# RailsFCGIHandler.process! '/var/log/myapp_fcgi_crash.log'
#
require File.dirname(__FILE__) + "/../config/environment"
require 'fcgi_handler'
RailsFCGIHandler.process!

Sweet, I can't wait, I believe I already have an idea for uDG '08.
Hope the contest gets started soon =)

Please let this start soon. Give us a hint.
I don't want to have to choose between this, nanowrimo, and a life.
I know the life is losing out in either case, but...

Currently Carlos is stonewalling/bottlenecking all progress by refusing to delegate responsibility/control, as usual. Nobody should be holding their breath.
Carlos,
I hear a lot of talk that this contest might not happen.. I joined this community a few years ago, and by all accounts, I am told I missed they heyday of the iDevGames community. There used to be a lot more going on, and a lot of it revolved around these contests.
Just looking at this topic, I see a lot of old members I don't really know that are back and excited about the possibility. I think it would be really great if it happened.
I know how people's priorities change in real life. I used to work on a MUD called the Dawn of Time. It was great while it lasted, but it suffered from a slow death when the leaders lost interest, had real-life things come up, started a family, got new jobs, etc. There is no way to avoid this, but there is a way to keep the community up, and that's by passing it to other interested people.

Here is a little snippet of the rules.. I'll post more hopefully today or tomorrow.
