Networking Weekend Minicontest
Yeah. First & last receive a free license to MonsterText 2.0.
Does it have to be an executable? I was thinking of doing a pygame one... I'll do it between one of my AP cram sessions this weekend.
It's not magic, it's Ruby.
Why would using pygame prevent you from making an executable? I was thinking about using pyglet and making an app with py2app.
For those of you that are hindered because you don't know squat about network programming (I know I was
) this is a great resource on the subject
GameDev.net Networking & Multiplayer
A particular point of interest is "Beej's guide to network programming"
Hope it helps a little

I just read this one, it helps a lot but I don't feel I can make *something* until monday... we'll see.
Here's our entry (Scott/slembcke/Skorche and me).
http://howlingmoonsoftware.com/downloads...Attack.zip
Note that you need two people to play. The details are in the readme. If you want to try it out on your own, you should either get two computers, or run the game twice on your machine.

Here's my entry:
http://www.obfuscated.co.uk/stuff/MChessLast.zip
- Multiplayer chess (2 - 4 players)
- Bigger board
- You can move each piece once per turn, then you press end turn once you're done
- Pawns move like kings, not pawns :-P
- At the bottom right you slowly accumulate pieces, these can be placed (by dragging them) next to your king
- You lose by having your king taken or resigning
- You win by being the last man standing!
- There's a little chat box in the bottom left
- REQUIRES LEOPARD (Uses CoreAnimation)
I'll probably update this post nearer the deadline.
Come on IRC ( irc://irc.freenode.net/#idevgames ) if you want a game!

Start or Connect to a server from the master list, then someone needs to click "Game" in the lower left corner.
Then the controls are WASD or arrow keys, and space to shoot. No damage, no explosions, etc. Sorry. There's a chat button in the lower right corner, too. You'll need to select the input field with your mouse.
It's really not all that much above the Networking example that comes with Unity, so don't be too impressed.
I've been sick.
Cheers,
-Jon

Here's mine
http://www.sethwillits.com/temp/MegaUltraTetris20XX.zip
Arrows move the piece, and A and Z rotate it.
Note: You may see a server in the server list that isn't the same game. I don't know why it's in there. If you host a game, make sure you put tetris in the server name so others (or you) know which one to connect to.
Note 2: Also, if you finished a game, restart the app before connecting or hosting again. There's a small bug I didn't have time to fix.
----
If you want to play, just drop into the IRC channel and I can host.
And here's a movie if you can't play for some reason. Please pardon the hideous sound echoing at the end when I lose
-- Small bug I couldn't fix before the time limit.

Ouch, yea...you did. Maybe he should have blurred out the names on that video.

Can't seem to get it to launch - quits on open for me.

You need to change the hosts.txt file to contain the name of a server that's hosting. I believe it's all mentioned in the read me.
