Networking Weekend Minicontest
A few of us in #idevgames (That's the iDevGames IRC channel) are holding a "for fun" minicontest.
The purpose of the contest is to develop some sort of networked game and post a link to an executable to this thread before this time:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fi...sec=0&p1=0
The executable should run on as many systems as possible, and can be developed using whatever you wish. Ideally this would make the requirements Mac OS X 10.3.9 or newer and Intel or PPC. If that doesn't fit with your scheme, no big deal. Additionally, it would be ideal if your game could be played over the Internet so we can have a bit more fun.
The prize for this contest is fame in #idevgames and on the forum, here.
The reason we are doing this is because it's fun.
The best way to have fun is to drop into the IRC channel for encouragement, idea brainstorming, and general competitive atmosphere.
Cheers,
-Jon

I'm in.
Also, the winner gets a Parallels 3.0 Serial Number from me, as I've got a spare.
Have fun, good luck, etc!

Second place gets a Screenflick license! Woot woot!!
Hmm why not. First place also gets a license for Chopper, iSight Screensavers and FluidNoise.
Chopper, iSight Screensavers, DuckDuckDuck: http://majicjungle.com
What network is the IRC channel on?
#idevgames on irc.freenode.net
Cya there.
Cya there.
Is it OK to revamp old code for this project? I did something with BlitzMax before, and I don't know how (what libraries) a networking game would be done in, say, C.
Sure, use whatever you wish. Goal is to produce something, not invent the wheel.

Wow.

Quote:Second place gets a Screenflick license! Woot woot!!Ah, I see Screenflick is another one of those "Simple, yet Elegant" interfaces.
Seriously though, it does look like a sweet app.

I hate that phrase too. My marketing guy wrote it.
Top three contestants will also each get a free licensed copy of FileCarver.
It's going to be hilarious when there are only 4 entrants with half finished games that don't work.
Well, I'll jump on the bandwagon. First place gets a free copy of MonsterText 2.0 when released. Whether this is an honor or an insult is up to you to decide.

Would suck to be the last guy.
