PyGame gives you complete access to OpenGL, and the ability to write native C extensions if you need them. That should give it an edge where performance counts.

PyGame doesn't run on Leopard, though, last I checked (3 weeks ago)

But pyglet does.

I'm using pygame, but building under Panther. The build, however, runs under Leopard.

I would use pyglet, (pyglet.org) but it does not support DirectX. Maybe in a future product as OpenGL becomes more pervasive across platforms. (meaning: when XP and beyond are the major Windoze systems.)

Director is poorly supported, buggy, and unsuited for large applications/games. I'd avoid it at all costs.

Uh, I got it to work. I had to follow the steps here for it: http://pygame.org/wiki/MacCompile?parent=index

hi guys.
thanks for the advice!
pygame works perfectly on leopard for me, have u tried installing 1.8 off the website?
i think director is a bit pointless. its nice to think your games can get published with a click, but pygame is so much more enjoyable to work with.
I need nothing but Textmate. Amen.
