Simple file class question

Post: #1
I am currently building a couple of file classes that I would like to distribute out to the public. So here is are some simple questions that will help me create them. If you could have a file class, to hold pngs, xmls, whatever, do you prefer keep the file path used inside of the file class, or not at all, why do you like to do so? And what common features besides read, write, and clear data do you like to have? (For example serialization)

I like to keep the file path within the class so that I can use save() without having to worry about where it saves to. in this case it is sometimes useful to be able to write-protect a file, and also to have a saveas() function. That way, you can use your file IO functions the much same way as you use the file menu commands in a text editor.
