Flash As A Game "Engine"

What sorts of limits or restrictions will I be faced with if I make a game with Flash? I like how close the art and code is in Flash but I wonder if I will suffer from the render times at all. Does anyone have any experience?

Edit:
Here's some clarification: my goal is to make a bunch of different kinds of games. I know Flash will be able to handle puzzle or simple arcade games, but what about sidescrollers? I saw that ninja game posted around New Years, but wondered what limits are placed on a project working on something like that? I would like to try putting some physics simulations in there as well. I just want to get a bit of knowledge before wasting a bunch of time on a dead end project.

i'm always impressed by the lack of perormance of web based games, java or flash. If you really care about making stuff that works on a browser fine, otherwise give up

Hm. Ok. I'm looking back into BlitzMax (I just want a simple way to make some 2D crossplatform games). I'm still interested in making some puzzle and simple arcade games in Flash as well, though.

Yes, I must agree... performance is a key factor with Flash games. However, some interesting side-scrollers have been made with it:

that's a nice game, would be better if it ran at more than 10 fps though

Alien Hominid is a fantastic game. The console version is, obviously, much better as far as performance and appearance and playability (I'm still not OK with 'a' being shoot and 's' being jump, but that's just me).

That might be your machine. It runs smooth and perfect on my 1.33Ghz G4.
