OMG Cup Winners
Freeverse and IMG have the news story.
Congrats to the winners.
Quote:Freeverse has announced that Escort Wing, by William Hogben and Stephen Johnson has won the first OMG Cup. Second prize goes to Matt Diamond for Pawns and third place is awarded to Will Thimbleby for Tracktor Beam.
The OMG Cup is a new game programming contest established by iDevGames, in connection with Freeverse, to encourage unique Mac game development. The challenge of the contest was to create innovative Mac OS X games that emphasize engaging gameplayËœin only six weeks. A distinguished panel of industry-leading professional game developers, artists, and software engineers, selected the three winners based on a combination of gameplay, originality, and overall presentation
Ian Lynch Smith, President of Freeverse has said, "Working with iDevGames.com to sponsor the Original Mac Games contest has been a fantasic experience. Encouraging original Mac game development is the only way to keep the Mac a vital entertainment platform. I have been overwhelmed with the quality and quantity of games submitted during the furious six week contest. It's an exciting time to be in Mac Games."
"The OMG Cup was created to recognize the need for original Mac games as well as to highlight the bright future of Mac gaming," said Carlos Camacho, Editor-in-Chief of iDevGames. "They, along with many talented independent game developers in our community, are advancing the state of Mac gaming at a grass-roots level."

Congrats everyone! And all entrants should remember that you beat Jon in the contest at the very minimum.

Huge congrats to all of you! (Najdorf, why didn't you win it all? Bad Najdorf!
)
Jokes aside, I'm thrilled to see that so many of the entries were really, really good. We've all come a long way in the last few years and with this trajectory… wow.

Congratulations to the winners, commiserations to Najdorf -- I thought you deserved to be in the top 3.

No big deal, I'm just sad I can't brag it with my friends

I totally agree on the winner, I'm happy for the Escort Wings guys, the game has an amazing potential, and with some tweaks (like changing the ship you control at every mission, more inertia, a neat story (in which maybe you play differernt parts, like say starcraft))it will become a best-selling shareware (or retail) much more than N-Ball could have been. Great job guys!

Ditto.
Thanks everyone for a nice contest, VERY nice games, and for less stress! OMG was a pure pleasure, and it was gratifying to receive comments like...
"This contest pushed me to 'finish' my first game!"
"Thanks to this contest, I've improved as a developer."
With luck, Kevin (MT) will build us a nice new uDevGames website to handle much of the hard work that goes into managing that contest so we can have a nice return of uDG. Of course once the dust settles from this contest, I'll need to set out a new challenge to keep you away from the real life and the opposite sex.
I hope the winners, as well as the non-winners, continue to perfect their game creation craft and do their best in making our platform & community one to envy!
Cheers,

>BTW, smile: You're on Gamasutra.
Oh, just noticed that. GREAT news indeed to be on Gamasutra. Teaming up with Freeverse got us covered no doubt.
Great trophy as well (kudos to Ian)
