Aren't you sick of these? Anyway, my idea for a theme is Medieval. Anything set in the Medievalish time period. This can be interpreted anyway you like.
Example:
You're the witch and must escape the witch hunt
Things with
Archery
Sword fighting
Castles
Etc

The contest starts at 12.01am GMT, Saturday September 24 (haha alex, I changed it now, just put a 1 instead of 2) and ends 24 hours later.
If you're on the west coast of the US, that's 5:01pm Friday to 5pm Saturday.
If you're on the east coast of the US, that's 8:01pm Friday to 8pm Saturday.

Anyone interested?

Alex

Do you think this thread will still be here in a year's time when the contest starts? Wink

Ive got this actual amazing idea, but It will take me more than 24 hours, I think...
I was making this thing anyway (not started yet), but given a 3D object and a plane, the result, two or more 3D objects i.e. Slice! Perfect for a Medieval game..
If I get the slicing code done before the comp. and release it (so anyone can use it) here can I use it for my entry??
pleaseee Rolleyes

Sir, e^iπ + 1 = 0, hence God exists; reply!

I'd say go right ahead.

Yay!!
I can slice a polygon into two peices!!

Ill upload the applet once it lets you divide into several peices.
paper and pencil time I think!

Now all I need it to slice it into several peices.
Then rewrite the algorithm, in 3D..

Check it out so far
http://www.geocities.com/ed72678954/SlicerTest.java

javac SlicerTest.java
appletviewer SlicerTest.java

Click to add points for the polygon until you make a loop,
then click and drag to make a slice, release and chop!
Click to do it again.

it assumes that the polygon is cut into two pieces by the line, I think.

try drawing a horizontal block letter U, then making a vertical cut. bad things happen Grin

What bad things?
If you cut it with an exact vertical line, it doesnt count as a vertical line because the slicer is defined by y=mx+c but if I had used ax+by+c=0 it wouldnt have that problem, so ill sort that thanks Grin
Also..
If your slicer is tilted to the left or horizontal it moved the sliced polygons together, if its to the otherside it moves them apart, this isnt a bug its just my lazyness (Id need to find out if the polygons were ordered cw/ccw or have them move away from some point from thier center of mass, which requires extra calculation I didnt want to do).
Did you mean one of those?

+ Yeah it is two peices just now, but it will be an any number later!

I mean that the two branches of the U are part of one polygon, which has coincident edges going between the branches.

I'd like to extend an invitiation to anyone and everyone (whether you're an enterer or a spectator) to the irc channel #idevgames-mini-contest (on irc.freenode.net) up to 24 hours before the competition is officially underway.

It'll be a reception, a meetup. People without ideas but want to compete can brainstorm with others. It'll be fun.

If the timing isn't good for you, I'm sure (at least I will) people will stick around so everyone can get prepared for the contest,
