I've been thinking hard about doing a soccer game. I'm not convinced it would be that difficult to do. The AI for the players would be tough, but I bet I could get most everything else done in a month or 2...

Funny name you got there, hi I`m Alex. Macintosh needs a good soccer game, I`ve been thinking about that for 2 years. Do your best, best way is if you learn about game development or porting from PC platform to Mac.

Another Alex, Join the throng Lucis-Gladius.
On Topic now, blobbo, a soccer game is a great idea. Try to pull it off. But, make sure the player can control which way the ball is hit. Like to the up or down etc. (this is sideways 3d view) by pressing the corresponding button before they hit, and how long they hold it before they hit is how far it is shot. You need an art person though.

Do it! Please do a soccer game! Sports games on the Mac are direly needed.

What are you planning: Team management, league soccer, world cup soccer or European/African/American cup?
I know alot about soccer, its costs alot of money to use the names of the soccer players for a game. I know Konami did a couple of very good soccer games, they changed all the original names of the players into names that don`t really exist, so they didnt have to pay all the soccer players money for using their names.
I`ll test it for you if its not too much trouble !

Is this game 3D or 2D like Sensible Soccer ? Going the Sensible Soccer route would make things so much easier and reduce the graphics required and make it a very fun game.

i guess i haven't got anything constructive to say regarding a soccer game though, and i think it's not a good idea to share my oppinion concerning sportsgames for computers here...

that is because of the unfortunate fact that somehow this board doesn't allow you change your name, and i couldn't think of anything way back when i signed up.
well i don't mind your name either, although "lucis gladius" can be translated to something like "Cock of Light" i believe, great name for a pornstar.
but i'm not the one who started making remarks about others names.
i think we should split this into the iDGContent discussion hoping to get Carlos somehow to enable for us to change our names whenever we like to without having to mail him first, but i doubt that will ever happen.

My vision:
top down, vertical scrolling. big sprites, cartoon-y. very simple gameplay - kinda like super nintendo hockey (remember that?). I loved that game... I'm not going to try to be terribly original, just faithful to the game. Soccer is only because the physics of it are pretty simple. hockey would get complicated fast.

the physics to soccer are not as simple as one would think...
especially taking into account roll. and as I said, player to ball interaction is not the easiest thing.
