I was wondering what you all recommend for music in a golf game, what style, if any. And do you have any free recommendations for songs?

Also, Does anyone have any free golf sounds (who made KGA Golf)?

Look (and listen) at Mario Golf on the GameBoy Color and Nintendo 64.

But no music doesn't hurt as long as you have decent sound effects, IMHO.

I recommend you have some birds chirping at random times.

For sure, have an option to turn off extra background SFX like the above and music.

For music... I like a jazzy, slow pace type vibe. Something soft is nice -- to match the pace of the game.

BTW, do you have the crowd ohhh and ahhhh and clapping sounds yet?

Nope, I just added some code to play sounds, but right now they are placeholders (an explosion when you hit the ball, a weird laser shooting sound when you hit the water Rasp).

Anybody have a nice song like carlos suggested? If not whats a good place to find a FREE one?

There are three golf swing noises in this archive from the iDevGames resources library. There are also some useful water and natural sounds in there if you hunt around.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that. I love that feeling when a game comes together, almost finished!!!

Screen shot?

I have a CD full of game samples, it has a ton of golf stuff - but alas it is a commercial product.

Do you have a golf course near your home?

If you do, why not visit it and talk to the grounds keeper? He might let you on the course where you can record the ambience. Also go to a driving range at night. Ask Tiger if you can record his swings... and cus words.

For music, search google for JAZZ MIDI FREE (or royalty-free)

My mom has a microphone, I think I can record some of my own sounds, thanks for the search tip.

I love that feeling when things come together, I wish it would have been a week ago instead of today, I have a lot of work to do still!
