texture parameters

i am reorganizing my scene builder and i am trying to get to grips with all the gl state stuff to do proper state preserving state changes, figure what i have to push, what is actually important to be saved and so on.

now i cant find out how all the texture parameters go. are any or all of them saved with the texture object? so with binding different objects i retreive them? it would make sense for most of them really, but i cant find a say so in the specs, please someone shed some light here...

If I remember right you can define the texture object parameters for each texture if you want, but you have to call the glTexImage2D() and define the parameters each time you want to change the texture parameters? I might be wrong if I am correct me!! This is what I get out of reading about it on opengl.org?
