Anyone know of any articles on how to design 2d side scrolling platform games? I already know how, but I don't know different approaches and methods for different things.

Also, I'm looking for a tutorial on parallax scrolling in the same kind of games (tile based hopefully).

Thanks,

I have read a tutorial (on the Web) on creating tile-based parellax side-scrolling games. sounds like what you want. I can't remember where it was. argh. ... can't find it, but it does exist Cool It was geared towards Windows, but the concepts are the same (just use Copybits() instead of the DirectX calls, or whatever...)

I'll keep looking.

There is a tutorial geared toward Windows(actually I think it is DOS) here.

Have you looked at Dan Reed's submission to SpriteWorld? It's public domain source code. The Scroller is darn cool... almost a udevgame entry.

From the SWML Archives...

Quote:Greetings,

I'm releasing all of my SW goodies into the public domain since I no longer
have time to update them. It would be cool if they landed in one of the SW
3.0 releases or at least on the spriteworld.org website somewhere. They do
need to be fixed up first, though someone else will have to do it as I'm
quite busy (I know -- we all are). Everything needs to be Carbonized, the
project files need to be brought into the 21st century, the blitters need
8-bit and 32-bit support, and the parallax engine needs to be made hardware
saavy. The download provided below (1.4 MB) includes all the SW blitters
I've ever written (lighting, glowing, distortion), the parallax engine, and
multiple demos (including The Scroller). It also includes a release
statement and a "to do" list for anyone who wants to fix it up.

I can't guarantee that this link will stay valid forever, so download while
supplies last. If anyone wants to distribute this material, it will need a
more permanent home.

Enjoy,
Dan

Carlos, maybe you should give this file a "permanent home' at iDevGames?
