Search restrictions flaw
Can I please add my voice to those requesting a lifting on the restrictions on the forum searching.
I tried searching for posts about git. Unfortunately the current search engine setup does not allow visitors to search about using git for source control.

Rats, I didn't see this post before I posted in your other thread. For others, I'll repeat it here.
Use Google with the "site" command to search the forums, which restricts Google's search to the site you specify. In your Google search, enter: site:idevgames.com git
Works for all other sites, like Apple too, although not much shows up for git there: site:developer.apple.com git

Maybe we should just have the site's search feature redirect to google
Howling Moon Software - CrayonBall for Mac and iPhone, Contract Game Dev Work
It did at one point.
Well a search that does not work is less use than one that works slowly.
Unless 3 letter searches (common in a field such has computing) then redirecting to google seems the most polite thing to do for visitors to the forum.

Quote:maybe we should just have the site's search feature redirect to googleI'm fine with that.
I set the min search to 3 characters. It was 4 before. Unlike vBulletin, MyBB doesn't allow for us to add certain popular search terms.

I added the google search box. You can use either internal forum search now or google. If you use google, it will search this forum, as well as iDevApps, and uDevGames.
Not to piss in your cheerios, but the background color on the search box is terrible:

(Safari 5, Mac OS X 10.6)
Could be just me, but that's what I see.

Is there any way to say "search iDevGames" in there, or next to it, or in the button or something? I didn't notice it until cmiller mentioned it, since it has the Google ads right next to it (I guess my brain filters that stuff out automatically now). The background seems fine to me, but hey, if the users are complaining, you know what to do!
I have to agree, that Google search bar does lower the tone of the newly redecorated forum.
I will try to tweak it. If someone wants to do a mockup as to how they prefer it to look, I'll welcome that.
Cheers

I have added the Google search form to the top left
I've kept the site search on the right
Not sure if I should rename that
I removed the watermark that said Google blah blah in the input box. Maybe not suppose to tweak that per their rules. But it seems to work.
cheers

Looks good to me.
