How max polys/vertex can I use for a game?

Hi, I'm starting with 3d, and I wanna make some 3d games, but I'm not sure how many polys can handle the iphone. I see websites with lowpoly models to buy, and each model has around 1800-2200 polys. Is this too much?

Thanks,

Probably, but it depends on how many of those models you'd have on screen at once. I find that you want to limit a scene to 10-15,000 total polygons.

Yes, it also depends on the context, if you have a smoothly animated hi-poly model doing complicated transformations, scaling, etc; the game will run slowly.

So a value between 10-15k polys on screen should be the maximum limit, in that case models with more than 800-900 polys should be too much.
Thanks guys,
