Using sounds in IPhone Apps
Hello all.
I was wondering, if there's an easy/free way to get your hands on specific sound files. As far as the big search engines tell me, you won't get anything easily, especially if it's for commercial use.
I am looking, for example, for a sound of breaking glass. Since I have read that
I was hoping you could help me get started in that area. I guess getting a mic and recording it yourself isn't the way to approach this - is it?
Greets.

Try out http://www.sound-effect.com/. They have lots of sound effects and have decent prices for commercial licensing.
Also check out Sound Snap. It used to be unlimited free sounds, now I think you can download five sounds a month or something similar.
I have been happy with soundrangers.com
I've heard of freesound.org, not quite clear on the lisence (Haven't really read it)
The Apple loops in GarageBand are royalty free, sort of: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2931
EDIT: I guess using Apple loops in games falls under "audio projects"?

Not free, but I can really, really recommend Sound Rangers. I got all the sounds for Galder for the prize for a pizza.
I liked them all. Thanks for helping me out.
Yes, googling will take you far. Here are the ones I have in my "sound effects" bookmark folder:
http://www.mysoundfx.com/
http://www.pacdv.com/sounds/domestic_sounds-2.html
http://www.stonewashed.net/sfx.html
But don't put that mik away. Making your own ones is always the best.
(OT: IckyThump? Shouldn't that be EckyThump?)

I'll tell you what I do:
Find a youtube (ahah!) video with the sound in it, then isolate it in Audacity. Twiddle the waves a bit, et voilá!.
I think the license is gray, but if you mess around with the waves....

Sure you won't get caught if you "twiddle" it enough, but why open yourself to that in the first place - and have extra work to make sure they won't catch you? How do you know that there isn't a smart fingerprint hidden in the sound?

Record your own and fiddle with that instead. You will have more freedom from the start to aim for the sound you actually need, and you will own it 100%. That is even better than free libraries on the net (where you can only hope that the person who uploaded it was clean).
Well, OK then. I'll trace the sound wave... >;-) Just kidding...
Thanks though.

mikey Wrote:Same risk?Yes, basically, except that you have the excuse that someone else claimed it to be free so you have a good reason to believe it.
Good point. OK, I'll record my own.
