uDevGames 2011 - Updates
The voting page is up now (a little bit early), and inactive entries have been marked as not entered. Congrats to everyone who made it this far. Best of luck to all of you in the rankings, but you've already won.
Over the next few days, please do all that you can to publicize the contest. I'll certainly do my best to get the top news sites to post about us. Hopefully nothing explodes when they do.

Good work on the backend of the contest Seth. Sets up nicely for 2012. Since the world, will end, I am determined to win it that year, unless Doug never recovers from 2011. Would like to see more sponsors for 2012. You need to wear them down until they beg you to let them sponsor.
BTW, I didn't see Freeverse as a sponsor. Did anyone ask them? They always support Mac indies. And Unity as well.

Yeah, they were both asked. Freeverse was bought out by NgMoco and then DeNA, so it's not surprising they disappeared.
And these guys I guess Unity's just too big.

Did you close the competition 35 minutes early?
I had noticed that too.
I don't know if there's a plan for this yet, but is the 2012 competition expected to fit into the same time frame? I want to figure out if I'll have time to participate next year.

all of the uDG contest are 3 months long, and tend to gravitate towards the summer months.
If you want to know how many people have downloaded your game, link people to your on udevgames.com and not the direct download. I'm tracking download clicks for the binaries (whether it's hosted on your server or on amazon).
A thought occurred to me. I could easily let the public vote in every category, but their votes still only determine the winner of Best Overall. That is, it basically becomes a survey for all of the other categories, and a real vote for Overall still. Any interest in this? I realize voting already started, but it wouldn't skew anything. Perhaps it's just too much stuff to show to the public anyway?
It'd certainly be interesting data to have, but I'd be afraid it would discourage people from voting. The number of voting categories presented to me as a developer for each game is pretty daunting - I imagine at least some casual players wouldn't bother with voting if it asked them too many questions.
In terms of collecting more interesting stuff from voters, I think an optional freeform comments/feedback field could go a long way. If a voter particularly liked some aspect of a game, they could write a short note about it, which would be much more meaningful than a 1-10 score in predefined categories. Personally, I'd find a lot more value in a collection of voter comments on my game than categoric ratings.

I'm with ThemsAllTook -- optional comments field good, more boxes to tick bad.
On the voting page I didn't see the number of stars I voted for the entries the first few times I went to the page (or when I clicked on the number of stars I wanted.) Has anyone else had this problem?
Can you elaborate? You clicked on a star and it looked fine? Came back later and it didn't? Clicked on it and nothing happened? Looked fine later?
Nevermind - it's fixed. Was busted only for a little while. Flog me.
